Snap-on dentures improve stability of the dentures while eating and chewing.
Literature reports that going to a conventional denture from natural teeth that
you lose over 50% of your chewing effectiveness in the first year and 85% after
15 years. Anything to improve these numbers is an advantage.
Snap on dentures tend to fit better than conventional dentures. Wearing a snap-in denture also reduces friction on the gums which improves comfort.
Snap on dentures reduce bone loss over time.
When teeth are extracted, you can lose up to 40% of the jaw bone in the first year. An alternative is at the time of extraction to do bone grafts and place implants, you can minimize the bone loss during an extraction.
They snap into permanent implants so they stay in place better than traditional dentures.

Frequently Asked Question
Snap-on or snap-in dentures are a type of removable denture that securely attaches to dental implants in your jaw. These dentures "snap" into place, offering a stable fit and improved comfort compared to traditional dentures. They provide better functionality, allowing for easier chewing, speaking, and confidence in your smile.
The lifespan of snap-on/snap-in dentures varies depending on how well they are maintained, oral hygiene, dental check-ups, and how frequently they are used. On average, the dentures themselves can last between 5 to 10 years and longer based on care.
However, the titanium dental implants that the snap-in denture securely attaches to are designed to last lifetime given the proper care and maintenance. Visit Dr. Ward for your routine check-ups.
Yes! Snap-on/snap-in dentures are designed to be more comfortable than traditional removable dentures because they attach securely to dental implants, reducing movement and irritation. This secure fit helps minimize discomfort, improves stability, and provides a more natural feel while eating and speaking.
The cost of snap-on/snap-in dentures can vary depending on factors such as the number of implants required, the type of dentures, and the complexity of your individual case. THEY MOVE!
Snap on dentures use implants to hold the dentures close to your gum tissue. As you eat and chew with your dentures, the gum tissue is what supports the denture, not the implants. Your dentures
will not lock in. The implants are used just to keep the denture from falling out
YOU CAN EAT WHAT YOU WANT
While published studies indicate higher patient satisfaction with eating with snap on dentures, there are still major limitations. Ads about eating corn and apples are misleading. The anatomy and shape of the jaw bones has a major impact as to how forces and stresses are managed while chewing. The number and position of implants adds variables. While there are exceptions, this is not the normal outcome to eat “hard” foods.
THEY ARE BULKY
Snap on dentures use your gum tissue for support when eating. The material has to be 3mm thick for strength of material as it is very brittle when too thin. With an upper denture, the material has to cover the roof of your mouth. While you can cut this part out of the denture, it can cause several problems including more movement when eating, food getting caught under it easier, problems with speech, premature wearing of attachment components, etc.
THEY HOLD BACTERIA
Acrylic is porous by nature and has microscopic crevice's for bacteria to hide and multiply. While dentures are used by millions of people, the reality is that they can’t be cleaned well.
HAVE TO TAKE THEM OUT AT NIGHT
Gum tissue requires oxygen to stay healthy. Gum tissue that is covered by a denture isn’t allowed oxygen at the level your gums need and can create an environment for fungal infections. The dentures need to be out of your mouth at least 6-7 hours for your gums to recuperate from dentures. Usually night time works best for this as it is the most convenient.
REPLACEMENT
Statistically, snap on dentures have to be replaced every 8-10 years. They will discolor with time and are susceptible to teeth popping out of the denture or fracturing if dropped. These are typically minor repairs, but may not be convenient.

Docs Notes on Dentures:
We are all created so differently. Some people can tolerate major bite discrepancies, missing teeth, infections. Dentures require adaptation to a completely different apparatus to put in your mouth and position between your teeth and gums and try to chew.
It is a major change in lifestyle and quality of life. Some people tolerate this change better. It is true that we all have different shapes to our jaws which may allow one shape to function better or more comfortably in a denture than others. At any rate, dentures, whether conventional or snap-ons, require major adaptations to quality of life.
